  • You are to create a headline about the 2nd year digital classes in this program. The audience will be 1st year students. Please provide the headline and your reasoning behind it. In addition, please outline what information is missing in this question that you would need to create the headline. (4 Marks)

Headline: “3 Reasons why Second Year Digital Classes are a Must for your Future”

The headline, “3 Reasons why Second Year Digital Classes are a Must for your Future”, effectively aligns with the headline effectiveness concepts we discussed in class, which is what helped motivate me and guide me to generate this headline. The headline tries to attract the attention of first-year students who may be contemplating on dropping out, as it highlights the relevance of the second-year digital classes by portraying them as necessary for their future careers. I ultimately went with this approach, as the feeling of wanting to drop out and change courses is a feeling almost every first-year students have, as they don’t get the full experience of their courses until the second year. This exact reason is what made me add the number (3 reasons) and power word (must), as it will hopefully intrigue and capture the attention of the first-year students that are struggling with deciding if this program is what’s best. Justifying the use of the power words and captivating phrase “3 reasons”, it adds organization and specificity, which helps assure to the potential first-year readers that they will receive relevant and important information based on their program in the upcoming years. Additionally, the term “a must for your future” uses persuasive language to create a sense of urgency and fear in the readers mind, which from ADV433, if people see something that they potentially fear or gives them urgency, they’re more than likely to open and click on the headline. In this instance, it would be the first years, as if they were to see the term “a must for your future”, they may get a sense of urgency or evening feeling of FOMO, pushing them to click on the headline even more, as they may be curious as to what second year offers, especially if they have a feeling of dropping out.

The question gives me a vague general overall idea on how to create a headline about the second-year digital classes for first year students, as it does not specify enough to generate a high-end headline, as it’s missing some valuable information. Without specific information based on course content, unique features, as well as benefits of second year courses, it becomes challenging for me to create a headline that stands out and captures the attention of first year students. Additionally, being able to understand the target audiences goals and interests is also another essential factor that is missing as if I had more information based on the first years, such as “create a headline for first years who are interested in second-year digital courses” ,“create a headline for first years who are NOT interested in second-year digital courses”, or even “generate a compelling headline that targets the first years who want to learn more about the benefits of the second year digital course” I can create a headline that is more tailored to their preferences. To justify, in question 6 of this assignment, we were to create a headline for graduating high school students who are interested in our program, which gave us a clear guideline as we understood the audiences’ interests and goals, which is our program. For this question, we were just told to create a headline for first years about the second-year digital course, it was vague and lacked information based on their interest and their overall desire, which ultimately made it challenging to create a headline. Ultimately, to create a headline, it is important to know valuable facts about the information being provided, and its especially important to know what the audiences, interest, goals, and preferences are (Linkdin, 2023).
